亞熱帶是世界上一個(gè)重要的氣候帶。竺可楨認(rèn)為亞熱帶氣候的主要特點(diǎn)是“冬月微寒,足使喜溫的熱帶作物不能良好生長(zhǎng)。其另一特點(diǎn)為每年冬季雖有冰雪,但無(wú)霜期在8個(gè)月以上,使農(nóng)作物一年可有兩造的收獲”。亞熱帶有冷、熱兩季,冷季種喜涼作物,熱季種喜溫作物,喜涼和喜溫不同生態(tài)型作物一年兩熟或三熟,是亞熱帶農(nóng)業(yè)的基本特征。
我國(guó)的亞熱帶位于秦嶺、淮河以南,雷州半島以北,橫斷山脈以東(22~34°N,98°E以東)的廣大地區(qū)。涉及16個(gè)省市(包括中國(guó)臺(tái)灣?。娣e約2.4×106km2,約占全國(guó)國(guó)土面積的1/4,素有“七山一水二分田”或“八山一水一分田”之說(shuō),人口約占全國(guó)總?cè)丝诘囊话?。我?guó)亞熱帶屬東岸濕潤(rùn)季風(fēng)區(qū),位置比西岸氣候型偏南5~8個(gè)緯度,比大陸氣候型偏北6~7個(gè)緯度。與世界同緯度比,除沙漠地區(qū)外,是zui暖熱的地區(qū),雨量遠(yuǎn)比同緯度的充沛,生物資源豐富,四季長(zhǎng)青,土壤肥沃,生物生產(chǎn)力高,農(nóng)作物高產(chǎn)優(yōu)質(zhì),是我國(guó)主要的農(nóng)林產(chǎn)區(qū)。
土壤偏酸性分布著大范圍的紅壤和黃土。本區(qū)土壤由于受雨水淋溶和常年的微生物分解,大部分地區(qū)相對(duì)其他地區(qū)土壤貧瘠。
植被特點(diǎn)是根系廣大,不論是在濕潤(rùn)地區(qū)或是干旱地區(qū)。主要植被類(lèi)型有亞熱帶常綠闊葉林、亞熱帶常綠硬葉林、沙漠植被。
我國(guó)亞熱帶丘陵山地雨熱基本同季,光熱水資源豐富。年總輻射量多在38×108~54×108焦耳/米2,全年大于10℃的積溫在4250~8000℃之間,大于10℃持續(xù)天數(shù),在220~350天左右。年降水量為1000~2000毫米,多數(shù)降水在作物需水較多的溫暖季節(jié)。在主要農(nóng)林作物生長(zhǎng)季節(jié)(4~10月)的太陽(yáng)輻射、積溫和降水可占全年總量的70~85%,光、熱、水的配合,有利于亞熱帶各種喜溫作物,林果和灌木的生長(zhǎng),具有發(fā)展大農(nóng)業(yè)的有利條件。

Subtropical hilly areas in China have basically the same seasonal rain and heat, and abundant light and hot water resources.
